ProRail is the railway operator of the Netherlands and is continuously innovating, using data projects to connect, improve, and make the railway network more sustainable.
At ProRail’s Datalab, we work extensively with innovative technology, sensors, and data. Together, we explored the potential of Fiber-Optic Acoustic Sensing (FOAS), which uses fiber-optic cables to detect sound waves. We applied Machine Learning and AI to automate processes such as the detection of trains, rail components, and wheel defects. Our goal? To make the rail network safer and more sustainable.
Curious to hear what’s possible with this FOAS technology? In an episode of de Databar, we sit down with Cees-Jan Mas from ProRail to discuss this in detail.
