The busy nature of the emergency department (ED) is a significant challenge that affects care, workload, and patient satisfaction. The goal of this project is to improve patient flow in the ED by initiating the admission process earlier. To achieve this, we, as part of the AI team at St. Antonius Hospital, have developed an algorithm that can assist doctors in deciding whether a patient can be discharged or needs to be admitted. By informing departments in advance about a potential new admission, they can prepare earlier, allowing for a smoother transition of the patient from the ED to the ward.
