"Insight into the Week of Respect through an intelligent social media monitor and LLM sentiment analysis"

Introduction

A respectful society where young people feel at home and actively contribute is the mission of the Respect Foundation. Living together respectfully starts with young people—the generation of the future. What you learn when you’re young stays with you for the rest of your life. By inspiring and activating children to contribute themselves, we are building a respectful society in a structural way.
But how do we ensure that they grow up in a society where they feel connected to each other and their environment? That they feel at home in and actively participate in the community in which they live?

We believe that children inherently possess a moral compass; the ability to make the right choices when it matters. However, experience shows that this compass must be learned to be trusted, recognized, and developed.

The goal-driven data solution

Since 2006, the Respect Foundation has organized the annual national awareness campaign, the Week of Respect. They reach a total of 4.1 million young people. Through our Data For Good label, we have helped the Respect Foundation gain insights into the online impact of the Week of Respect. With a social media monitor and an impact analysis, the Respect Foundation has insights into the sentiment of the messaging and the actual reach. The sentiment has been analyzed using our LLM.

“Every year, after the Week of Respect, we conduct the “social scrape”: a collection of all the projects, actions, photos, and quotes that have taken place across the Netherlands. This is no easy task, especially given the campaign’s massive growth (30%!). Doing this manually is no longer feasible, and we often miss real gems. That’s why we are incredibly grateful for our collaboration with Data Science Lab. In 2023, they supported us in visualizing the national impact of the campaign. A remarkable analysis revealed that the Week of Respect generated a tremendous positive boost on social media!

It’s not only a fantastic gift for our organization to see all the beautiful and impactful initiatives, but it has also allowed us to create individual activity reports for each municipality we collaborate with, filled with information such as the number of teachers and young people reached, photos from guest lectures, and actions from sports clubs. Huge thanks to @DSL for helping us inventory the positive impact of the Week of Respect in a data-driven way!”
