Three lessons from our AI projects
Over two years, we supported dozens of AI projects, from initial exploration to a model that runs every night. Some went exactly as planned; others…
UPDATE 2025:
We’ve made another AI Christmas card generator for you this year.
👉Click here to make your Christmas card!
You know how it goes: Christmas is coming, and once again you’re too late to send Christmas cards. Meanwhile, your parents, Aunt Jannie and your colleagues are sending you GIFs and cosy little Christmas videos. But let’s be honest: you can do better. Make it more personal.
At Data Science Lab, we thought: why not use AI to make a unique, personal Christmas card?
With our brand-new AI Christmas card tool, all you need to do is sit in front of your camera for a moment. Take a photo (don’t worry, we don’t store anything!) and let our algorithm work its magic. Hair and make-up are included in the generator. In no time, AI transforms you and your Christmas companion, if you have one – yes, there’s room for two people – into real Christmas heroes: Santas, Mrs Clauses and even Christmas children.
The result? A brilliant digital Christmas card that you can:
🎄 Share in all your group chats on Christmas Day.
🎄 Post on LinkedIn as an original AI Christmas post (feel free to mention us ;)).
🎄 Or simply keep as a fun Christmas memory from 2024.
We combine AI components in a smooth workflow:
- ComfyUI helps us create the visual magic.
- It runs smoothly thanks to Modal, which we used to deploy the workflow.
- The front end? It’s built with Streamlit – simple and accessible
Our GenAI workflow makes use of:
- The photo you take isn’t stored anywhere, which keeps things safe.
- Everything runs in the Azure cloud, so you can conjure up your Christmas card quickly. You don’t need to be a tech expert; we’ve taken care of everything for you.
Let’s be honest: AI is impressive, but it isn’t perfect yet. You might notice a hand that suddenly has seven fingers, or an ear that looks just a little too Christmassy.
Why does this happen? These small mistakes occur because the AI model tries to recognise patterns and turns human features into something from a fantasy world. AI models such as SDXL work with vast amounts of data, but they aren’t infallible. Still, we think an extra finger or a slightly surreal Christmas jumper adds to the charm of an AI Christmas card. Don’t you?
Trust us: a personalised AI Christmas card is the way to make an impression this year. Try it yourself and make your friends, family or colleagues jealous of your magical transformation. It takes just a minute – and you’ll have a great, personalised card straight away.
