The people behind Data Science Lab
For ten years, we’ve helped organisations get value from data and AI. We provide direction, build what’s needed and take responsibility for what we deliver. We do this together with our clients.
Close to the organisation
Our way of working is a good fit for entrepreneurial, mid-sized organisations. We combine the organisation’s knowledge with our technical expertise and bring the capacity to put plans into action.
Together with our clients, we determine what is needed. We involve the people who will use the applications in their development. We take responsibility for what we deliver and stay involved in management and continuous improvement.
Our conviction
The client’s challenge shapes our approach. Data and AI are tools for achieving an organisation’s goals. We advise on where they add value, and we also say when another approach would be a better fit.
Over ten years, we’ve built up expertise and developed ways of working and applications that have proven themselves in practice. We draw on these when tackling new challenges. Sometimes an existing approach works, sometimes a bespoke solution is needed, and often we combine the two. We explain the choices we make and why.
Our work doesn’t stop when an application goes live. We make sure people can use it and that it continues to work well. That’s why we stay involved in management, monitoring and continuous improvement.

Our story since 2016
We started with data science. Today, we help clients with data strategy, data platforms and AI applications, from implementation and adoption through to management.
Consultancy remains an important part of our work. Complex challenges call for skilled people and bespoke solutions. At the same time, after ten years, we do not need to start from scratch on every project. We bring proven knowledge and applications together in clearly defined services, then build on them for each client.
We continue to explore new technology and ideas, testing them in practice. We work with partners such as Microsoft and Databricks. They bring their platforms and knowledge; we add our technical expertise, understanding of the client and experience from previous projects.
AI is now everywhere. For us, that is a positive development, with many new ways to help organisations. Especially now, we remain critical about what the technology can and cannot do, what is responsible and which laws apply. We help our clients make sound choices. We look forward to the years ahead and to what we can achieve together.
The start of Data Science Lab
As big data takes off, we found DSL. We see plenty of opportunities to help organisations put data science into practice.
Lab Day
We introduce Lab Day: time to try out new ideas, learn and share knowledge. Through Data for Good, we also put our expertise to work for organisations and NGOs with fewer resources.
Our first office of our own
With more than 25 colleagues by now, we move into our first office of our own on Donker Curtiusstraat. It gives our team a place to work together and meet.
The first DSL im Schnee
The whole team goes on a winter sports trip for the first time. Hitting the slopes together and getting to know each other better outside work: DSL im Schnee becomes a popular tradition.
Room to deepen technical expertise
We launch technical modules covering data platforms, ML engineering, computer vision and NLP, including LLMs. This gives colleagues more room to deepen their expertise, explore trends and developments, and share what they learn.
Moving to Westerdoksdijk
We move to a modern new office on Westerdoksdijk. It is an attractive, professional space for our team, with room to welcome clients and work on projects together.
Our people
From strategy and engineering to AI and client contact: meet some of the people you’ll work with at DSL.
Our culture
Data is not about technology, software or code. Ultimately, it is always about people. We work with numbers, but we focus on the tangible impact on organisations, teams, individuals and society.
View job openingsHuman
We want to know the people we build things for. We listen, take their day-to-day work into account and remain available when things change.
Direct
We say what we see, which option we recommend and why. Even when an idea delivers less than expected or data and AI are not the best approach.
Team players
We work with colleagues and clients and share what we know. When something works well in one project, we make it available to others too.
