Three lessons from our AI projects
Over two years, we supported dozens of AI projects, from initial exploration to a model that runs every night. Some went exactly as planned; others…
GitHub Copilot is a hot topic among developers, and at DSL we can’t ignore it. As data enthusiasts, we’re always looking for innovative tools to improve our work and use data more intelligently. That’s why this month we’re testing GitHub Copilot for you in our GitHub Copilot pilot.
We’re now putting Copilot through its paces to see whether it could be a valuable addition to our data science toolkit. In this blog post, we’ll tell you about our experiences so far.
GitHub Copilot is an advanced AI coding partner designed to help developers write code. It uses OpenAI Codex, an AI system recently developed by OpenAI, to extract context from code and comments. It then suggests new lines of code or entire functions. It promises to make development faster and more efficient, which naturally makes us curious!
Several of our colleagues are testing GitHub Copilot for a month. During this period, we’ll use GitHub Copilot in different projects to assess its performance and functionality. We want to see how well it adapts to our specific data science needs and whether it can improve our work.
Privacy and security come first in everything we do. Before starting this pilot, we looked carefully at how GitHub Copilot handles data. We want to be sure that sensitive information stays secure. The good news is that GitHub Copilot does not use our code. You can read more about this in the GitHub Copilot for Business Privacy Statement, which covers GitHub Copilot’s security aspects.
We have high expectations of GitHub Copilot, but we know every tool has strengths and weaknesses. We hope to find out where it excels and where it could still improve. At the end of this pilot, we’ll thoroughly evaluate whether GitHub Copilot is a valuable addition to your data science work.
We’ll keep you updated on our findings, what we’ve learned and any surprises we encounter along the way. So stay tuned and follow us for updates!
