Enough feed for the cows without waste, thanks to computer vision

The Floating Farm in Rotterdam is the world’s first floating farm. Its priorities are animal welfare, circularity, sustainability and innovation. Producing healthy food in cities, close to consumers. They call it ‘ Transfarmation ’. Through our Data For Good initiative, we contribute to this transfarmation.

Our solution,

The aim is to understand the feeding process so we can optimise it and ultimately prevent feed waste. Floating Farm is committed to circular farming: much of the cows’ diet consists of organic by-products from the city. Our cows are fed brewer’s spent grain from several Rotterdam breweries, bran from mills in Schiedam, grass from nearby sports pitches and potato peelings from a local processor.

It’s great to have been involved in this Data for Good project from the start. It’s an end-to-end data solution, from mounting and installing the cameras ourselves to implementing our computer vision model.
